Calm Fire

I created a set of artwork called “On Fire”, I made these pieces using a firing technique known as Saggar fire. Saggar fire requires soaking your pieces in materials such as wood shavings, salt, and miracle growth in a fire for an extended period of time. This result brings a rustic and earth-tone piece. As a busy and chaotic person, I wanted the saggar to create a calming feeling due to the natural colors the saggar leaves. Being a four-year ceramics student, I wanted to broaden my abilities from just using normal glazing. Using Saggar fire has allowed me to use research and trial and error to create tall vases with a unique finish. The process of creating my pieces was technical but definitely a rewarding way to finish out ceramics here at Trinity.
